Cultural Centre, Stanley Place, South Bank, Brisbane
Opening Hours: Open daily 10am – 5pm (until 8pm Mon-Thu)
Light from Light opens at the State Library of Queensland on October 1st, 2010 and continues until 2012.
The State Library overlooks the Brisbane River from its beautiful location in the South Brisbane Cultural Precinct. In 2007, the newly redeveloped building, designed by architects Donovan Hill, was opened to the public. Nestled between the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) and Queensland Art Gallery, the State Library of Queensland is a popular Brisbane destination for both librarygoers and the general public, engaging visitors of all ages with a variety of engaging programs.
In 2010, the State Library opened its new digital culture centre, the Edge, which will host the Light from Light symposium.
State Librarian, Lea Giles-Peters says of the State Library of
Queensland:
“We believe that an empowered and progressive society depends on creative thinking and the sharing of knowledge. In fulfilling our vision, of ‘enriching the lives of Queenslanders’, we focus on three goals:
* Expanding Queensland memory
* Extending access and participation
* Fostering learning and literacy”
The State Library of Queensland is proud to be presenting Light from Light in conjunction with MAAP – Multimedia Art Asia Pacific and the Shanghai Library. Light from Light offers not only the chance to engage visitors in the wonderful State Library building and collections but also presents the unique opportunity of collaboration with sister-state library, Shanghai Library.
In 2006 MAAP collaborated with the State Library to utilise the building that was destined to become The Edge for the MAAP 2006 festival ‘out of the internet’. Light from Light builds upon this dynamic artistic partnership to present both artists and the State Library in a brand new light.
